Nido de ametralladoras de la guerra civil - Machine gun nest of the Spanish Civil War

Soy muy aficionado a la bicicleta de montaña. Siempre que salgo a montar en bici llevo conmigo una pequeña cámara de fotos porque me gusta fotografiar aquellos elementos que me puedan servir de inspiración para alguna viñeta o diorama. Ayer durante una ruta hacia la Atalaya de Cogollos me encontré con este viejo nido de ametralladoras de la guerra civil. Sólo se conserva un pequeño trozo y no está en muy buen estado de conservación.

Aquí os dejo las fotos. Espero que os puedan servir de inspiración.


I'm a mountain bike enthusiast. Whenever I go cycling I carry a small camera because I like to photograph those elements that can inspire me some vignette or diorama. Yesterday during a route to "Atalaya de Cogollos" (in Granada, Spain) I found this old machine gun nest of the Spanish Civil War. Only a small piece is preserved and is not in very good condition.

Una nueva vida para una vieja maqueta - A new life for an old model

Hola amigos. Como se puede comprobar fácilmente, he estado varios meses sin maquetear nada y sin publicar nada en el blog. La culpa la tiene el magnífico tiempo que estamos disfrutando en Granada (España) durante el final del invierno y lo que llevamos de primavera. Poca lluvia y sol radiante no invitan precisamente a quedarse en casa encerrado haciendo maquetas. En lugar de eso lo que he estado haciendo es recorrer las faldas de Sierra Nevada con mi bici de montaña. Sin embargo, siempre que salgo en bici llevo una pequeña cámara de fotos conmigo para fotografiar aquellos elementos que me parezcan interesantes como inspiración para las maquetas. En próximos posts compartiré algunas de las fotos que creo pueden servir como referencia.

Hello friends. As can be easily checked, I have been several months without making any models and  without posting anything on the blog. The fault lies with the gorgeous weather we're enjoying in Granada (Spain) so far during the late winter and spring. Little rain and sunshine do not invite to stay home locked making models. Instead what I've been doing is riding the foothills of Sierra Nevada with my mountain bike. However, whenever I go biking I carry a small camera with me to photograph those elements that seem interesting to me as an inspiration for the models. In future posts I will share some of the photos that can serve as a reference.


Para retomar el hobby, he decidido repintar un Merkava siman II que monté en 2006. El montaje de la maqueta es bastante detallado, sin embargo, la pintura en su día quedó muy mal. El trabajo de aerógrafo era mas o menos aceptable, pero el empolvado y el embarrado me quedaron muy mal. Así que me he decidido a despintarla y darle otra oportunidad. En próximos post iré subiendo cómo va quedando este nuevo intento de pintura.

En este momento la maqueta sólo tiene la imprimación.


To return to the hobby, I decided to repaint one Merkava siman II I made in 2006. Assembly of the model is quite detailed, however, the painting and weathering was very bad. The airbrush work was more or less acceptable, but the process of dusting and weathering was unacceptable. So I decided to remove the original paint and give it another try. In next post I will upload what is becoming this new attempt to paint.

T-34/85

Hola amigos. Os presento la última maqueta que he terminado, este T-34/85. Es la quinta maqueta que he terminado en 2013, todo un record para alguien como yo que sólo conseguía acabar una o dos maquetas al año.

Hello friends. I present the last model I've done, this T-34/85. It is the fifth model that I finished in 2013, a record for someone like me who only managed to finish one or two models a year.

Polvo/barro seco semi descascarillado... sin morir en el intento - Dust/mud dry semi flaked... and not die trying

Me gusta mucho ese aspecto de polvo/barro que lleva adherido al carro varios días y se ha ido descascarillando en algunas zonas. Es un efecto muy común, que puede verse en carros de todos los tipos y colores.

Puede obtenerse de forma sencilla, pero es un efecto que sólo puede conseguirse si se trabaja por capas. Yo uso tres capas de técnicas distintas para lograr al final este efecto. En primer lugar uso lo que llamo "preempolvado de la base", a continuación, sobre el preempolvado de la base uso esta técnica de polvo/barro semi descascarillado, y por último, uso empolvado con óleos mezclados en seco. El conjunto de las tres técnicas consigue de forma bastante realista imitar el efecto que puede verse en decenas de fotografías de carros reales.

I really like that aspect of dust / mud adhered to tanks for several days and has gradually chipping in some areas. It is a very common effect, which can be seen in tanks of all types and colors.

This technique is applied early in the painting process. It should be applied right after the base color, before washing. If filters are applied, the filters must be applied first.

It is very important that the tank is painted in gloss for the technique can be applied correctly. A continuación se aerografían con colores Tamiya en ESMALTE manchas irregulares (tanto en forma como en opacidad) en las zonas donde el polvo/barro tendería a acumularse. En este carro concreto, he usado para este efecto, XF-55 deck tan enamel disuelto con su propio disolvente X-20 al 50% y aplicado con una presión un poco más baja de lo normal: 0.8 kg. El color debe elegirse en función del tipo de terreno sobre el que se mueve el carro y del aspecto final que se desee obtener.

Let it dry a few seconds. Then "peck" with a sponge or stiff brush moistened slightly in X-20 thinner to remove some of the paint. Paint should be removed from those zones most exposed to friction, which is most likely that dust / mud is flaking.

Esta técnica se debe repetir varias veces hasta conseguir el aspecto que se quiera. Es decir, una vez retirada parte de la pintura, debería volver a aerografiarse una capa semi transparente de pintura que a su vez se retira. Esta superposición de capas da un resultado mucho más realista.

Hola a todos. Acabo de inaugurar una nueva página en este blog llamada fichas de modelismo. En esta página iré subiendo, poco a poco, archivos pdf, cada uno con un paso del proceso de pintura de un vehículo militar. En cada archivo me centraré en un paso o técnica que yo aplico con éxito a mis maquetas, intentando describir qué es lo que hago, cómo y por qué, con el mayor nivel de detalle de que sea capaz.

Espero que estas fichas en pdf, fáciles de imprimir y de consultar en un dispositivo tablet, puedan ser de alguna utilidad.

Por supuesto, las fichas se han publicado bajo la licencia creative common que permite descargarlos, usarlos y distribuirlos libremente siempre y cuando no se haga uso comercial de los mismos y se respete la autoría.

Hello everyone. I just opened a new page on this blog called modeling tips. On this page I will upload gradually, pdf files, each one with one step of the painting process of a military vehicle (in spanish only sorry). In each file I will focus on a step or technique I successfully have applied my models, trying to describe what I do, how and why, with the highest level of detail that is capable.

I hope these tips in pdf, easy to print and easy to see on a tablet device, may be of some use.

El color base de un carro liso es tan monótono, que hay que enriquecerlo de alguna forma antes de continuar con el proceso de pintura. Existen muchas técnicas para hacerlo, desde aclarar el centro de los paneles hasta la modulación del color, pasando por el uso de luz cenital. Todas ellas son técnicas muy útiles que permiten un color base más rico.

Yo sin embargo, prefiero aplicar lo que, a falta de un nombre mejor, llamo "preempolvado de la base".

The base color of a tank model is so monotonous, which must be enriched in some way before continuing with the painting process. There are many techniques for doing so, clarify the panel center, color modulation, or the use of cenital light. All of them are very useful techniques that allow a richer base color.

¿En qué consiste?

Consiste en dibujar, con el color base aclarado con el color del polvo que predominará en el vehículo una vez terminado el envejecimiento, una serie de manchas irregulares en los lugares más expuestos a acumular suciedad (polvo, barro, etc.).

Hay que hacerlo con la pintura más diluida de lo normal y con menos presión de aerógrafo (entre 0,5 y 0,75 kg.)

Hay que dibujar la suciedad en las zonas lógicas, donde tiende a acumularse la suciedad. Es muy importante consultar fotografías de referencia donde pueda apreciarse bien cuales son esas zonas.

What is?

El preempolvado de la base también puede aplicarse para enriquecer otros colores lisos como por ejemplo arena.

¿Qué sentido tiene el preempolvado de la base?

La idea de este paso se me ocurrió al ver una secuencia de fotos del proceso de limpieza de unos M1s verdes que acababan de volver de maniobras llenos de barro.

Los lavaban con mangueras de agua a alta presión para arrancarles el barro. Mientras estaban mojados se veían relucientes, pero una vez secos, los carros presentaban un color más claro en aquellas zonas donde habían tenido barro, como si el lavado no hubiese podido arrancar toda la suciedad.

Yo creo que, dado que la pintura de los carros es porosa, la suciedad acaba acumulándose en los poros, donde la limpieza posterior no puede eliminarla del todo. Eso hace que, desde lejos, aparezca como que la pintura es más clara en esas zonas.

What sense does dusting the base color?

M113-A2

Después del parón del verano, en el que me he dedicado a subir montañas andando y en bici, tomar el sol, bailar y en general, disfrutar del magnífico clima que tenemos en Andalucía, de nuevo he retomado el modelismo con esta maqueta.

Es un M113-A2 ambientado en Irak. Con él he seguido investigando esos efectos de empolvado tan extremos que tanto me gustan.

Monté la maqueta en febrero de 2007. Le añadí muchos detalles de construcción casera, para intentar que se pareciera lo más posible al carro original. Cuando terminé, como me había llevado tanto trabajo, me dio miedo arruinar la maqueta con la pintura y no me atreví a pintarla.

Ahora por fin he encontrado el valor necesario (o quizá la palabra sea temeridad).

Este es el resultado.
